Student Challenges

Verizon Innovative App Challenge

Specifically focusing on middle school and high school-age participants, the Verizon Innovative App Challenge is a collaborative competition created to encourage students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). As we are all aware, student achievement in STEM is critical to U.S. economic growth and competitiveness on the global stage. This challenge, which offers $10,000 grants for winning schools and a Samsung Galaxy Tab for each winning team member, has been designed to engage students, provide them with valuable new skills and experiences and open their eyes to exciting new possibilities in STEM for their futures.

Team America Rocketry Challenge

An extra-curricular hands-on project-based learning program, the TARC competition is modeled around the aerospace industry’s design, fabrication and testing processes. All students participate in a team of 3-10 students to design, build, and fly a rocket. Like aerospace companies work within specific design parameters, every year the challenge requires teams to achieve the same basic mission-oriented goals of hitting a precise altitude, landing within a specific flight time window, and returning a raw egg (”the astronaut”) without cracking.

2012-2013 Siemens We Can Change the World Challenge

Empower your students to change the world by participating in the nation's premier sustainability competition for grades K-12. Through project-based learning, students learn about science and conservation while creating solutions that impact their planet. Beginning September 13, 2012 through March 5, 2013, teams from across the country will be challenged to create sustainable, reproducible environmental improvements in their local communities.

Scholastic Challenge 2013

The American Scholastic Achievement League extends to you an invitation to enter your students in Scholastic Challenge 2013 taking place online in February, 2013. For the past twelve years, thousands of eighth grade students have been provided with an entertaining and challenging enrichment activity that allows them to demonstrate a variety of problem solving skills and knowledge in many academic areas. Recently, we introduced a second division that is designed to academically challenge students in the sixth grade.

eCYBERMISSION

eCYBERMISSION is a web-based Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) competition free for students in grades six through nine where teams can compete for State, Regional and National Awards while working to solve problems in their community.

Real World Navy Challenge

The Real World Navy Challenge (RWNC), made possible by a generous grant from the Lenfest Foundation, presents a problem-based learning scenario formulated by a joint effort of the Delaware Valley Industrial Resource Center, the Chester County Intermediate Unit, and the United States Navy. Although interdisciplinary in approach, the emphasis of the project is to enhance instruction in STEM related fields and will be coordinated at local sites by science and mathematics teachers at the middle and high school levels.

Read World Design Challenge

The Real World Design Challenge (RWDC) is an annual competition that provides high school students, grades 9-12, the opportunity to work on real world engineering challenges in a team environment. Each year, student teams will be asked to address a challenge that confronts our nation's leading industries. Students will utilize professional engineering software to develop their solutions and will also generate presentations that convincingly demonstrate the value of their solutions. The RWDC provides students with opportunities to apply the lessons of the classroom to the technical problems that are being faced in the workplace.

Botball

The Botball Educational Robotics Program engages middle and high school aged students in a team-oriented robotics competition based on national science education standards. By designing, building, programming, and documenting robots, students use science, engineering, technology, math, and writing skills in a hands-on project that reinforces their learning.

DimensionU

In DimensionU students play fun, free multi-player educational video games with their friends. As a reward for getting the answers correct kids can earn virtual currency to buy in-game items to make their experience more fun.

Lure of the Labyrinth Challenge

A free online math challenge for grades 6 - 8, where students use mathematical thinking to progress through a compelling graphic-novel story.
